Providing managed servers on site? Exchange SBS?

SBS is a brilliant server and very easy to setup - but it can be a nightmare to debug when things go wrong. One acute problem is email management. As an IT service provider your server is often at the mercy of a DSL line, which itself can be a cause of blacklists, or worse - blindly forwarding spam from compromised PC’s within your network, severely damaging the businesses online reputation in the process. They suffer costly downtime from being on blacklist and you have an additional support burden.

We understand the desire and needs for having a server on site - file management, the perception of being a ‘big company’ and control. But as we become increasingly mobile and further away from the office we have to deal with intelligent firewall policies, remote mobile device management and the risk of your services being cut of from the wider internet because of a DSL line failure. (Imagine being in a hotel in another country online to find out you can’t reach your mail server!) Also the speed of access to your email and office services is dictated by the speed of your office broadband.

For businesses with less than 50 users we have a natural bias towards hosted managed services.

As an IT service provider - these are easy to sell and even easier to manage. Best of all, you have a predictable support burden.

Using your office server with VORARI’s Managed Zimbra Messaging Services.

For those that wish to keep a server on premise, but open to having a cloud based messaging and collaboration solution, we can pair our messaging services with your server. You get a premium messaging and collaboration service, Zimbra, with an award winning web client, intelligent sync services to Outlook and OS-X and mobile access to a variety of mobile phones.

We can sync with your servers Active Directory or LDAP with our services giving you greater convenience over your user policy within your organisation.

We can also cache your policies as well so in the event your server does go down, your staff will still be able to access critical email communications over Zimbra’s industry leading webclient.

For those that would like a local copy of email on site we can also provide a local copy of email to your servers using our local MXMR technology. Originally conceived for our Asia Pacific clients, MXMR is our term for Mail Exchanger Multi Route - it allows you to benefit from the convenience of our cloud based mail and messaging and the peace of mind of having your messages stored locally your servers.

Using your office server with VORARI MailProtector Services.

For those organisations that insist on using an in house server for messaging and collaboration we can provide MailProtector advanced cloud anti-spam and anti-virus.

With MailProtector you benefit in 3 major ways:

  • Bandwidth Tax; If up to 90% of email is spam, then purely from a bandwidth cost MailProtector saves you money by only forwarding known good email to your server.
  • Online Reputation though Outbound Anti-Spam & Anti-Virus. Most server side packages catch viruses, but stopping outbound spam can be tricky - and often requires more sophisticated hardware. MailProtector can do this in near realtime. By stopping you from accidentally sending spam, we minimise the risk of your servers coming on to a blacklist.
  • Business Continuity; If your email server goes down either due to hardware failure or upgrades, we will safely queue your email and deliver back to your server in a flow controlled fashion as soon as your server is back online.

I have anti-spam and anti-virus on my server and I’m still on a blacklist. How does MailProtector help me?

With MailProtector - we setup your services for inbound and outbound scanning. The big difference with us is the outbound scanning.  Blacklists aren't an issue in that regard as the server will relay through us.  But we do enforce outbound scanning - this helps the business stop potentially damaging spam before it can affect your clients online reputation resulting in costly downtime.

Why is this better than a server based solution?

First point - separation. When you place everything on the server - you only have a single line of defence. If spam were a criminal, this is like letting the criminal come right up to your doorstep. And you only have consumer grade defences to protect you, like a knife or hand gun. Is this really the best way to protect yourself? We know where spam the spam is coming from, so why not stop it as soon as possible?. The logical place to stop spam is at the DNS or MX layer. If all spam goes to a common entry point - we can afford to place much more sophisticated tools to fight the spam and viruses. This is exactly what MailProtector does.

What if our server goes down - how does this affect email? Will messages bounce?

One of the nice things about having a cloud based AS/AV is that we have highly resilient and redundant infrastructure. In the case of your server going down - whether this is due to a crash or a maintenance - we will safely queue your messages for up to 7 days.

Longer or Unplanned Downtime?

We can switch you over to our emergency mail services - providing critical email and business continuity.
